Week 7
Okay, so for this blog post I’m going to share stuff about myself and your job is to guess which love style I scored highest in by the end. I think it’ll be pretty easy, but I’ll go ahead and give you a hint now. Two tied for my top score. Also, I haven’t actually been in a relationship for almost four years sooo who knows, maybe this is just based off my ideals not reality.
Anyway, here we go…
I fall in love and get attached very quickly. However, relationships are very important to me so I prefer them to be very strong and meaningful ones. While it may not take me long to fall in love, I think the best kind of relationship is when you are very close so I have to believe that my partner and I have the potential to be really good friends. Commitment and communication is super important to me too. I am kind of oblivious so I have a fear that my partner may have issues with our relationship or cheat without me ever knowing and I like to be able to trust that they are committed enough to keep me updated so I don’t have to worry about these types of things. I put a lot of effort and care into my relationships because the person and our relationship mean a lot to me. I want the person I’m with to be happy because it makes me happy in turn (even if in the end that means we weren’t right for each other). I find that I get along best and am more attracted to people who have meaningful life goals and actively make an effort to achieve those goals.
Since friendship is so important to me I don’t think love happens at first sight, maybe attraction but not love. I don’t want to have my feelings played with either so I wouldn’t mess around with someone else’s, it just doesn’t seem fair or like fun. I do love attention from my partner and can get jealous, but I normally keep that kind of stuff to myself because I don’t want to make my partner worry about it to much. Plus, I hate fights and drama so if that helps me avoid anything like that I’m okay letting it go. Meaningful, stable relationships are really where I feel the most comfortable.
So? What do you think?
If you guessed Storge and Agape, you were right! Three others were slightly below those two, but all had similar scores and then Ludus was my lowset score by far.
If you guessed one or both of the other love styles wrong I think it just goes to show how we all have at least a few of the tendencies from each love style. It was honestly pretty easy for me to pick out characteristics I felt I aligned with and didn’t align with in every category, but I do feel I relate the most to the two I scored the highest in.
Hi Alex!
As usual, I loved your blog this week! I appreciated that you kind of made your take on the definitions into a guessing game! As for the love styles, Storage and Agape were my highest as well. The way that you applied the different love styles to your own life and relationships really illustrate your knowledge of the subject, and the examples you provided really gave life to what they truly represent. You make a lot of very valid and significant points in why these love styles are significant and why they work for you personally, and overall, your blog was very informative and interesting!

I do agree with you on how easy it is for us to see ourselves in each one of the love styles. This is one of the critiques I have over this theory: it is so easy to picture your ideal love style that you want. It is the same problem that self-report scales have. I like the triarchic model of love more, however it is fun to try and figure out what your love style is.
